  • Courses are delivered by mixture of tutor led activities, presentation, individual & group work
  • Course participants will have access to online material to supplement in-class learning.
  • Participants: min 8 / max 12

Cost of the course is £295 including assessments

Payment methods:

  • Can be paid in full by individuals or employers
  • 10% discount offered when 2 or more are from same employer/organisation
  • Option of 2 easy payments of £147.50 (1st payment due on course start and other within 4 weeks)
  • Payment can be made by cash, cheque, invoice or credit card (£5 fee for credit card payments)

Dates:

Tuesday afternoons for 8 weeks (1pm – 4pm) commencing 13/02/2018 to 03/04/2018

Thursday mornings for 8 weeks (10am – 1pm) commencing 22/02/2018 to 12/04/2018

Venue:

Glasgow city centre (venue to be confirmed)

There is no prerequisite qualification or experience required for this course.

Who is this course aimed at?

This course would be appropriate for those who have an interest in learning British Sign Language (BSL) as a leisure course or as an introductory course leading to further qualifications within this area.

Ideal for front-line/public facing staff members who work in the  private, public or third sector service providers.

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • conduct a basic conversation with a deaf person using British Sign Language (BSL)
  • Identify and use simple, commonly used expressions, question forms and conventions associated with BSL
  • Request and provide information appropriate to the context
  • Articulate the language clearly enough so that a sympathetic user of British Sign Language (BSL) would understand the candidate questions and contributions.

  • BSL Receptive Skills
  • BSL Productive Skills
  • BSL Conversational Skills

Assessment is conducted by your course tutor/assessor and verified by our internal verifier (IV). SQA may select random assessments to be verified by their external verifier (EV).

Assessment for this qualification is in 2 parts:

  1. Communicate using straightforward BSL
  2. Understand straightforward presentations (2) in BSL
